Active Ankles: Why Wear Them?
22 07 2008
Question: Hello, I have a quick, but silly question. I’ve noticed alot of girls on my club team wear active ankles. I just wanted to know why you are suppossed to wear active ankles and what it help you do in volleyball. Thanks ![]()
Thank you for the question! Well I can see why younger players would be confused about this. Active Ankles are worn for 2 reasons. Either for prevention or the player needs extra support due to a previous injury. Read the rest of this entry »

Are ASICS good enough for volleyball?
26 06 2008Ok, well, a little fact about mwah (Brooke) is that I love to shop on EBAY. I’ve purchased 3 violins, 2 guitars, volleyball gear and other stuff. I think it’s a great tool. So, I had to buy a new pair of volleyball shoes because my favorite pair (The Tornado Lightning Mizuno Wave Tornado 2 Womens Volleyball Shoes) are starting to fall apart since I play in them ALL-THE-TIME!
Anyways, I just purchased a pair of ASICS Gel-Enduro Athletic Gray Shoes/Womens/Size 11 (I know, I have huge feet lol. BUT! The bigger the better for volleyball haha). Personally, I have never owned a pair of ASICS, and therefore have never been able to try them for volleyball.

Hitting: Strengthening Your Opp. Arm
26 06 2008
Question: Hi, my name is Kelly and I have been looking all over the internet for an answer to my question. Nothing seems to be helping. My question is If I am a right-handed outside hitter, what could I do to strengthen my left hand so I could hit with both. I think it would give me a better chance to be a starter, and coaches like a player who can trick the other team, and it will definatly help my team score points. I hope you can answer and will respond. I greatly appreciate it! Thanks for taking your time to read this.
Thank you for your question Kelly.
I appreciate you asking this question because when I was in high school I wanted to know the same thing. I had to figure things out on my own due to my circumstances (if you don’t know my story yet please feel free to read the About VBHL page!) so I had to come up with any excersize or physical movements to help my body get used to using my non-dominant arm.

Do you wear ankle braces?
25 06 2008
I wear ankle braces on both ankles. Just curious to know how many people wear ankle braces, and their reason.
I torn the outside ligament of my right ankle 98% the summer before my senior season (awful timing, I KNOW! lol). I have really weak ankles so it was bound to happen. Sucks that I had to miss the AAU nationals in Disney that year though
But anways, I now wear T2 Active Ankles on both ankles.
- What’s your story?
- Do you wear 1 or 2?
- Do you wear them because of injury or prevention?
It’s time for the website to become more of a community so I will be posting more articles like this!
Look forward to reading your comments!

Are you attending any UF camps this summer?
25 06 2008
Just curious if anyone is. I am scheduled to work all 4 sessions and I love to meet new players and keep in touch with them! I’m just as pumped if not more PUMPED than the campers themselves lol. Being a coach is a totally different experience. I get to meet new players that play all of over the world! Also some of the players I look up to, and most of all, I GET TO PLAY WITH THE GATORS THEMSELVES! lol. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s also an opportunity to make an impact on young volleyball players to follow their dreams and to hopefully help them in some way. So yeh, post a comment if you are going and what camp you are attending, and I’ll see you there!

Skills: Pre-Season Training
25 06 2008Question: I’m a highschool volleyball player. I’m 14 and will be a sophmore next year. I am completely dedicated to volleyball. I played on a 16’s club team for my area this passed season, they made my position a libero. I am confident in my skills & would like to make my schools varsity team next season, I just think i need more work. Any advice on skills training, besides camps?
This question was asked by Emily.
Ok, well I don’t really have an entire article of information to write up for this one but I’ll give it a shot haha. The only thing I can think of to help your “skills” training outside of the gym and camps etc., is visualization training. Make a routine of “excersizes” that you can do everyday or w/e is most convienent for you, that allows you to go through all the motions of volleyball – without a ball. I like to make it a point when I can’t touch a ball for a while to stand in front of the mirror at night before I go to bed and practice my cut shots. I try to visualize the court in front of me and picture the ball being set and cut the ball to spots 1-6 on the court. For passing you can do the same thing. Practice the motion of passing and following through to target. Picture the ball coming in, practice good form (hands ready, arms high, feet shoulder width, etc.) and follow through to target.

Workout: Increasing Vertical – Part 1
9 04 2008
Question: what exercises can increase my vertical and power.
This question was asked by Jill. Thank you for the question Jill. I am going to atempt to answer the first part of your question, because the question about power is not that specfic. I’ll explain what I mean at the end of the article.
First I will give you exercises that I do to increase my vertical, but some things work better for some individuals and other things for others (if you get what I mean).
